چکیده
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Robot-assisted neck dissection (ND) in head and neck cancer patients has been demonstrated to be feasible. We hypothesized that surgery for parotid cancer could be achieved via a gasless modified facelift approach using the robotic system. We intended to evaluate the feasibility of robot-assisted selective ND (SND) via a modified facelift (MFL) approach in parotid gland cancer. STUDY DESIGN Case series. METHODS Primary tumor resection with robotic SND I-III via MFL was performed in five patients with parotid gland cancer. RESULTS All cases of robot-assisted SND I-III combined with primary tumor resection were successfully conducted without any significant intraoperative complication, applying additional incision or conversion to open conventional ND. The amount and duration of drainage, hospital stay, retrieved lymph nodes, and complications were generally acceptable. The postoperative scar was able to be completely hidden by the auricle and hair. CONCLUSIONS Robotically assisted surgery via an MFL approach is a feasible and useful method, with excellent cosmetic results for the surgical treatment in selected cases of parotid gland cancer.

BACKGROUND Robot-assisted neck dissection in patients with head and neck cancer has been demonstrated to be feasible. We conceived a surgical technique of surgery for parotid cancer with the robotic system via a gasless modified facelift (MFL) approach. A detailed surgical technique is provided. METHODS In a 28-year-old female patient with parotid cancer, the disease was treated with primary ...
متن کاملBasal Cell Adenoma of the Parotid Gland: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Salivary gland tumors are among the pathologies in the head and neck that may be challenging in diagnosis and treatment. Most benign tumors occur in the parotid gland. Pleomorphic Adenoma is the most common type. Basal Cell Adenoma is a subtype of the Monomorphic Adenoma with rare occurrence. Proper diagnosis and clinical evaluation by the use of radiography can lead the physician to the best t...
متن کاملEffect of clinical symptoms on the indication for selective neck dissection for N0 carcinomas of the parotid gland
Lymph node metastasis is a major prognostic factor in parotid carcinoma, however, the pre-operative diagnosis of occult nodal metastasis is difficult in clinical N0 (cN0) parotid cancer patients. In addition, the indication of neck dissection in T1-3 cN0 patients is controversial. The current study investigated 17 patients with clinical T1-3 cN0 parotid cancer, and analyzed the correlation betw...
متن کاملParotid Gland Carcinoma Masquerading as an Aural Polyp
Introduction Parotid gland squamous cell carcinoma is an uncommon aggressive neoplasm with poor prognosis. Aural polyps are usually the presenting features of chronic suppurative otitis media, tuberculous otitis media, and adenoma or carcinoma. The malignant aural polyp is very rare. Parotid gland carcinoma masquerading as an aural polyp has rarely been described in the literature. ...
متن کاملParotid lymph node metastasis in a patient with tongue cancer
Parotid lymph node (LN) metastasis occurs most commonly from cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) of the head and neck, but rarely from oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Here, we present a rare case of metastasis to the parotid LN in a patient with tongue cancer. Although usual extent of modified radical neck dissection that includes resection of the tail of the parotid gland is below th...
